With summer being just around the corner, many people are beginning to step up their exercise routines to get their bodies ready for beach season. It’s a well-known fact that staying active is necessary for maintaining good health, but how much exercise do you really need? Is it possible to get TOO much exercise?

It is recommended that people get at least 2 ½ hours of mid-intensity exercise weekly that includes both cardio activities and strength building workouts.

Just by completing the recommended 2 ½ hours of sleep on weekly, you can lower your risk of heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, depression, strokes, various types of cancer, and the degeneration of cognitive function.

We know you have a busy schedule, and sometimes that makes it hard to fit in the necessary exercise to maintain your health and fitness. But many studies have shown that even shorter, higher-intensity workouts can be effective. The effects of small amounts of exercise are especially noticeable in your mental health. Because exercise releases adrenaline and endorphins within your body, you immediately feel the benefits of your physical activity in your mood and outlook.

Go on a Quick Walk

Take a break from your office chair by taking a stroll around your office every hour. This will not only increase your step count for the day but will also make you more productive and encourage you to perform better in your job. Or, if you have the ability to do so, step outside for a short walk during your lunch hour to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine while you exercise.

 

Do What You Can

Even if it’s small amounts of physical activity it still has a positive impact on your body. Remember to start out slow and not to overwork your body at the start. It’s better to ease yourself into exercise to let your body adjust instead of jumping into a high-intensity workout plan.

 

Split it Up

By dividing your workouts into smaller sessions it makes it easier to fit them into your scheduling and makes them less daunting to complete. Even doing just 10 minutes of physical activity twice a day will have a positive effect on your body. The hardest part is getting started!
